Mythological tale
According to the legend prevalent about this famous temple, a demon named Tadkasur did the severe penance in order to attract the attention of Lord shiva, who blessed him with the gift of immortality. But Tadkasur started misusing the blessing and killed the numerous saints. At this, the saints sought help from Lord Shiva. Viewing the pathetic condition of saints, Lord Shiva’s son Kartike slaughtered Tadkasur. While dying, Tadkasur prayed and apologised for his heinous acts before Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva proclaimed that the people in Kalayuga would worship Tadkasur in the name of Lord Shiva. Soon after this incidence, the Lord Shiva rested here for a while. But He felt a wave of heat while taking rest. Seeing this, Mata Parvati implanted seven cedar trees here to provide shadow to Lord Shiva. Astonishingly, one can find exact seven trees in the yard of Tadkeshwar Mahadev temple. The name of Tadkeshwar Mahadev is also found in the holy book of Ramayana.
