Shimla is the paradise for all the fishers in India, where the rarest of rare Brown and Rainbow trout fishes are found. There are numerous places in Himachal Pradesh for tourists to enjoy fishing or angling activity including Barot, Rohru in Pabbar Valley, Chirgaon, Chamba Pattan. Rohru, which is about 120 km away from Shimla, provides the exceptional experience of fishing. One can catch abundant Brown and Rainbow Trouts in Chirgaon as well. The river Beas and the Pong Dam reservoir provide attractive fishing spots for the anglers. Gushaini region in Tirthan valley is the major place to enjoy Trout fishing. One can enjoy this recreational activity in the serene environment of the valley. But before going for fishing anywhere in Himachal, one must take permission from the State Government authorities, which issue a special license for trout fishing. From the perennial rivers to the seasonal rivers and majestic glaciers, Himachal Pradesh fulfills the fishing fantasies of every fisher.
Emerged as a major trout fish producing state in the country, Himachal Pradesh is all prepared to open trout fish outlets at Shimla, Chamba and Kangra under Centrally Sponsored Scheme on Blue Revolution. Presently, about 50 per cent of trout produced is being sold outside the state. The state govt. has established eight trout farms in Kullu, Chamba, Mandi, Kinnaur and Shimla districts to boost trout fish production in the state.
As far as nutritional value is concerned, this popular fish is full of protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. It is one of the best sources of two forms of omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, which are essential for keeping our heart healthy. Interestingly, trout is rich in protein and Vitamin D but contains no carbohydrates.
