Located in Una district of Himachal Pradesh, Mata Chintpurni Dham is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. It is a mythological belief that the holy feet of Mata Sati had fallen here. Nestled in the lap of Dhauladhar Mountain, this temple is also known worldwide with the name of Shri Chhinanamasatika Dham. This place has special significance for Hindus. The Chitpurni temple is situated on a hill, which falls in the category of Sola Singhi hills. Here one can enjoy the natural beautiful sight. According to locals, it has been reported in Chitpurni Chalisa that Chitpurni Dham is surrounded by four Shiva-lingas. Though very few people know this information.
On one side of the temple is the Shivavadi temple near Gagret, while on the other is Kaleshwar temple at Amb. At a short distance from Chintpurni there is a third shrine Narayan Dev Temple, which is popularly known as Kaasab temple. The fourth temple is Machakuund Mahadev temple, which is located six kilometres far from Dhaliyara Chowk on Jwalaji road. It is believed that all the wishes of devotees who pay a holy visit to these four temples before Chintpurni shrine. It is said that having the Shiva-lingas in the four directions means that Lord Shiva protects the Chhinanamasatika goddess from all four directions. This temple is built under a banyan tree. The whole temple is wrapped with gold around. A huge crowd of worshippers rushes here during the holy months of Navratri and Sawan.
Chitpurni Dham is one among the 51 Shakti Peethas, which have the same legend behind their origin. According to religious texts, Daksh the father in law of Lord Shiva held the sacrificial fire Yagya, but he did not invite God Shiva and Mata Sati in the sacrificial fire. In fact, Daksh did not think Lord Shiva of his equal. When Mata Sati learned about it, she went there uninvited. But Daksh used derogatory words for Lord Shiva in front of her. Dejected by Lord Shiva’s insult, she jumped into the holy fire. When Lord Shiva came to know all about it, he lifted up half burnt Mata Sati and began Tandav dance, which led to complete chaos in the whole universe. Lord Vishnu from his Sudarshan Chakra divided the body of the other Sati in 51 parts to save the universe. It is said that the places where organs had dropped became Shakti Peethas. As per mythological belief, the feet of Mata Sata were dropped at Chintpurni Dham, due to which it is also called Chhinanamasatika Dham.
How to Reach Mata Chintpurni Dham
Chandigarh is the nearest metropolitan city from Chintpurni, which is connected by road, rail and air routes to several major cities in the country. The nearest airport from Chintpurni temple is 173 kms away at Chandigarh, while the nearest railway station is 54 kilometres away located at Una. You can also come to Chandigarh from the rail route which is connected to all the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc. The Jan Shatabdi train goes from Delhi to Una. You can also reach Chintpurni from Delhi by road, via Mubarakpur, Chandigarh, Ropar, Nangal, Una, Bharavani. The distance of Una from Delhi is 420 kms.
