Rains in the Forest
Mornings are different now… its like the festival days of my childhood.. each day i wait anxiously for the clock to display the obtuse of 5 am… our cats also wake up with me and start nagging for food. After which a quick tea with lemon, ginger (no sachet) – all fresh… Opening the window is fun.. u don’t know what to expect as all the glasses get frosted at night… the other day i was greeted by a thick veil of fog which started pouring inside in minute yet visible bits… lighted a ciggy (my pc auto corrects ciggy to piggy) and tried seeing thru the mist…
On second thought I decided to go out… hardly a few locals on the street , some taking their herds for gazing, a few women moving with their stuff to the fields… a brief walk about a km and the bend opened up a totally new vista… a rain soaked forest with mostly pine trees as also others… I walked down slowly soaking up the raw smell of rocks, greens and inside the floating fog as the forest stood in a mist.. some trees visible, some smoky yet some just a shadow… though they look similar, each pine tree has a shape of its own… the sharp end of the leaves displayed water drops and looked like combs with beads as if stuck on the head of village belle… changing glow and lightening up at certain angles… while below the grass blades tried desperately to hold on to the dew sometimes in single sometimes in groups… most of them were bend as if expressing their silent gratitude for the blessing they received…
The greatest beauty awaited below a tree – an extended branch from a small unknown, unnamed bush stunned me with a display of rain drops trapped in a way which seemed to be like miniature white lights wrapped around – its difficult to describe the true beauty but maybe the image will help you understand…
Further down, the forest was waking up to the cold morning with birds chirping in weak yet sharp voice either to shake away the cold or maybe to invite the sun… i don’t know… sat down on the rocks waiting to see this small wonders but in vain … just managed to take some long shots …maybe Colonel will help me to understand them better… the other side of the gorge presented chinese washed out landscapes in living monochrome …
A little while later a chilly breeze pushed away the fog much to the delight of the birds who started encouraging me to move on… and then i reached the ice cold stream flowing down the middle of the forest crossing the road, slopes and desperately dropping down to embrace the river down the valley… bushes, trees, wild flowers dead pine leaves near the stream formed another small planet and each corner rebelled in its own unique way to gain attention… once again i sat on the rocks near the stream … i stood in awe humming.. … just, walking in the rain…
