Rakcham or Rakchham is the lesser known place in the Sangla Valley circuit. The circuit consists of Kalpa, Sangla, Rakcham and Chitkul . The valley is open for normal tourism from April till October, the best time being September and October when the Apple Orchards are full and the weather is pleasant. Beyond October it gets extreme cold in November and December with temp falling below zero. Snowfall starts around 15th November and the snow remains till first week April.
You need moderate woolens during April – October and heavy woolens with Jackets etc. during November – March. Monsoon clouds remain till 3rd week August though somtetimes the skies get clear. Acomodation are various from tents to hotels to guest houses and rates are quite low. Heavy discount are available during winter.
A few things which are not available at this place are :
- News paper
- Phone Booth
- Non veg food (unless you are lucky)
- Post Office
- Police Station
- Medicine Shop
- Emergency services
But you get abundant clean pollution-free air, mineral water directly on your tap from the hills, fertilizer free vegies, simple smiling people. You can drop me a note if you require further info or booking for package tour, transport and lodging either at Rakcham, Sangla or Kalpa. Do mention your dates and approx budget. Please remember that I am not any agency or booking office or tour operator, I will try my best to advice and help you and connect you with the right people.
Places to stay
I suggest visitors to stay in Sangla and visit this place from there on way to Chitkul – you can even spend a full day at Rakcham and then go back to Sangla which is more convenient in location. In Sangla our recommended place for stay is Igloo Nature Camp with 12 swiss tents. For booking you can also contact directly. You can also get in touch with me for planning your tour in this valley and for booking in any of the places like Kalpa, Rakcham and Chitkul at discounted rates.
